General policy and scope of the journal
The CBAB - CROP BREEDING AND APPLIED BIOTECHNOLOGY (ISSN 1518-7853) – is the official quarterly journal of the Brazilian Society of Plant Breeding (www.sbmp.org.br), abbreviated CROP BREED APPL BIOTECHNOL. It is indexed in AGRIS of FAO, CAB International Abstracts, Periódica, Scopus, Chemical Abstracts Service, Agrobase and Acervo Documental of Embrapa. It publishes original scientific articles which contribute to the scientific and technological development of plant breeding and agriculture. Articles should be to do with basic and applied research on improvement of perennial and annual plants, within the fields of genetics, conservation of germplasm, biotechnology, genomics, cytogenetics, experimental statistics, seeds, food quality, biotic and abiotic stress, and correlated areas. The article must be unpublished. Simultaneous submitting to another periodical is ruled out. Authors are held solely responsible for the opinions and ideas expressed, which do not necessarily reflect the view of the Editorial board. However, the Editorial board reserves the right to suggest or ask for any modifications required. Complete or partial reproduction of articles is permitted, provided the source is cited.

Article
The CBAB publishes exclusively in English, however reserves authors the possibility to submit manuscripts in Portuguese and have them translated after approval. The onus of the translation is responsibility of the author, although the CBAB suggests the journal’s official translator. Contributions are submitted via WEB, access http://www.sbmp.org.br/cbab/index.htm clicking Submission, whereupon the article registration system will automatically ask for a password and author’s e-mail. Delete all author and correspondence information from the manuscript file. As the Journal has a blind review policy, authors should not reveal their identities in the manuscript. The author will be asked to enter this information in a separate form, during the submission process before uploading the manuscript file. The author can monitor the manuscript’s stages of proceeding by his/her e-mail and personal password. Expert ad hoc reviewers evaluate the manuscripts to assist the Editorial Board with the final decision of approval, modification, or disapproval. The responsible author will receive one free issue of the journal. Reprints at cost price may be ordered by e-mail (cbab@ufv.br).
The complete manuscript should comply with the following sequence: title, abstract, key words, introduction, material and methods, results and discussion, acknowledgements, título, resumo, palavras-chave, references, and tables and black-and-white figures. Colored illustrations to the debit of the corresponding author are allowed. The manuscript must be typed in Word for Windows, version 6.0 or upper, in times new roman 12, double spacing, format A4, with 20 mm margins and consecutive top right numbering. The double spaced text must not exceed 18 pages, including separately placed tables and figures (one a page) in the end of text. The title should be clear, concise, and express the gist of the article. It should not surpass 15 words, be typed in bold, 14, left, with initial upper case letters. The authors’ complete names, and their institutional addresses should be entered in the proof read. The abstract, as well as the resumo, should not contain more than 150 words. A maximum of 5 key words (palavras-chaves) are allowed. The introduction should include a brief literature review on subject and aims of the study. Material and Methods must enable other researchers to repeat the experience. Preferentially, Results and Discussion should be presented together for easiness of reading. Acknowledgements should be succinct, and limited to effective co-workers and financing agencies. The Resumo must be headed by the title of the article in Portuguese.
Be carefull about the references. Never cite summaries of events. Avoid citations of theses or any other unpublished literature; whenever possible, cite the published paper of the thesis. These measures will help shape a manuscript that will be a credit both to your article and to the journal. Citations mentioned in the text by the last name of the author and the year (for instance, Liu 1998, Pereira and Amaral Júnior 2001, William et al. 1990) are to be alphabetically listed in the item References, according to the following examples:

Review
Leading authors of certain topics will be asked for a Review by the Editorial board (also restricted to 18 pages), which should shed light specifically on stirring subject matters that deserve a deeper analysis into their stage of development.
Notes
Notes are limited to three pages and designated to inform about new studies or observations, wherefore the analytical tools are not required. They may focus on a matter of broad interest; briefly describe an original study; report on participatory research; express observations of special interest in the fields of research, teaching, and applied sciences; or comment on the release of new software in a plant breeding-related area.
Plant breeding programs
Outstanding breeding programs regarding innovation, efficiency, impact, and/or continuity can be portrayed in the CBAB, restricted to 18 pages.
Cultivars release
New cultivars deserve special attention for their key role in plant breeding, and consequently, for domestic agriculture. A contribution to this section should comprise an abstract of maximally 50 words, an introduction, mention the applied improvement methods, performance characteristics, foundation seed production, and contain a minimum of references, tables, and figures. The entire text should not exceed 12 pages.
Book review
This new section was created to announce new books related to plant breeding. A contribution to this section should comprise two copies of the book sent in by the Author. The book will be revised by an expertise referee chosen by the Editorial Board to edit a brief.
Viewpoint
At invitation of the Editorial board, viewpoints will be - as reviews - worked out for the CBAB, to outline topics which interest plant breeders and society.
Letters
Short letters of general interest are also welcome for publication, subject to changes by the Editorial Board for reasons of space limits or clearness of expression.

Política geral e escopo da revista
A CBAB - CROP BREEDING AND APPLIED BIOTECHNOLOGY (ISSN 1518-7853) - é a revista trimestral oficial da Sociedade Brasileira de Melhoramento de Plantas (http://www.sbmp.org.br). O nome internacional abreviado é CROP BREED APPL BIOTECHNOL. A revista está indexada no AGRIS da FAO, CAB International Abstracts, Periódica, Scopus, Chemical Abstracts Service, Agrobase and Acervo Documental da Embrapa e destina-se à publicação de artigos científicos originais que possam contribuir para o desenvolvimento científico e tecnológico do melhoramento e da agricultura. Os artigos deverão contemplar as pesquisas básica e aplicada em melhoramento de plantas perenes e anuais, nas áreas de genética, conservação de germoplasma, biotecnologia, genômica, citogenética, estatística experimental, sementes, qualidade de alimentos, estresse biótico e abiótico, e áreas correlatas. O artigo deve ser inédito, sendo vetada a submissão do mesmo a outro periódico. As opiniões e conceitos emitidos são de exclusiva responsabilidade dos autores, não refletindo necessariamente as idéias da Editoria. A Editoria, porém se reserva o direito de sugerir ou solicitar as modificações que se fizerem necessárias. A reprodução completa ou parcial dos artigos é permitida, desde que citada a fonte.

Artigo
A CBAB publica artigo exclusivamente em inglês, porém faculta ao autor a possibilidade de submetê-lo em português para, após o aceite, providenciar a sua tradução. O ônus da tradução é de responsabilidade do autor, porém a CBAB http://www.sbmp.org.br/cbab/index.htm, clicando Submission. O sistema de gerenciamento de artigos solicitará o e-mail do autor correspondente e a geração de uma senha. Os manuscritos deverão ser inseridos sem os nomes dos autores e seus endereços, os quais deverão ser disponibilizados em um formulário à parte. Com seu e-mail e sua senha pessoal, o autor poderá acompanhar toda a tramitação do seu artigo. A avaliação do artigo será feita por revisores ad hoc especialistas, para auxiliar a Editoria quanto à decisão final de aceite, modificações ou rejeição do mesmo. Ao autor responsável pelo artigo será fornecido, gratuitamente, um exemplar da revista. Separatas serão fornecidas a preço de custo pelo e-mail cbab@ufv.br.
O artigo completo deverá conter, preferencialmente, a seguinte sequência: title, abstract, key words, introduction, material and methods, results and discussion, acknowledgements, título, resumo, palavras-chave, references, and tables and black-and-white figures. Ilustrações coloridas serão permitidas, porém com ônus para o autor correspondente. A digitação deverá ser feita em Word for Windows versão 6.0 em diante, em fonte times new roman, tamanho 12, espaçamento duplo, formato A4, com margens de 20 mm e paginação consecutiva no topo à direita. O artigo não deverá exceder a 18 páginas, incluindo tabelas e figuras digitadas em páginas separadas (uma por página) ao final do texto. O Título deverá ser claro, conciso e refletir a essência do artigo. Escrito com a inicial maiúscula e posto a esquerda, não deve conter mais de 15 palavras digitadas em times new roman 14, bold. O Abstract, tanto quanto o Resumo, não deve exceder a 150 palavras. Um máximo de cinco palavras-chave (key words) será permitido. A introdução deve incluir uma breve revisão de literatura sobre o tema e os objetivos da pesquisa. O Material e Método deve ser redigido de modo que outro pesquisador possa repetir a experiência. Preferencialmente, Resultados e Discussão devem ser apresentados em conjunto, para maior dinâmica de leitura. Os agradecimentos devem ser suscintos, limitados a colaboradores efetivos e agências financiadoras. O Resumo deve ser precedido do título do artigo em português.
Cuidado com as Referências. Não citar resumos de eventos e nem artigos não publicados. Citar preferencialmente o artigo de tese, ao invés da própria tese. Esses cuidados darão maior credibilidade ao artigo e a revista. As citações feitas no texto pelo sobrenome do autor e ano (por exemplo, Liu 1998, Pereira and Amaral Júnior 2001, William et al. 1990) deverão ser ordenadas alfabeticamente no item Referências, seguindo os exemplos abaixo:

A CBAB publica ainda outras modalidades de trabalhos, todos submetidos ao crivo de revisores ad hoc, do mesmo modo que os artigos.
Revisões
As Revisões, também limitadas a 18 páginas digitadas, serão solicitadas pela Editoria a(os) autor(es) consolidados nas pesquisas que envolvem o tema da revisão. Elas serão elaboradas com o objetivo de lançar luz a um tema instigante que mereça uma análise aprofundada sobre o seu estado-da-arte.
Notas
As Notas são limitadas a 12 páginas digitadas e destinadas a informar pesquisas ou observações novas, para as quais as ferramentas analíticas não se aplicam. Elas podem focar tema de amplo interesse; relato curto de uma pesquisa original; relato de pesquisa participativa; observações de especial interesse nas áreas de pesquisa, ensino, extensão; lançamento de um novo software relacionado com a área de melhoramento.
Programas de melhoramento
Programas de melhoramento inovadores ou que se destaquem pela eficiência, impacto e/ou continuidade poderão ser retratados na CBAB, limitados a 18 páginas digitadas.
Lançamento de cultivares
Os novos cultivares merecerão uma seção especial pela importância que representam para o melhoramento e, por conseguinte, para a agricultura nacional. A seção Lançamento de novos cultivares deverá conter abstract, limitado a 50 palavras, introdução, métodos de melhoramento utilizados, características de desempenho, produção de sementes básicas e um mínimo de referências, tabelas e figuras. Todo o texto ficará limitado a 12 páginas digitadas.
Resenha de livro
Esta nova seção foi criada para anunciar novos livros relacionados ao melhoramento de plantas. A contribuição para essa seção se dará mediante envio, pelo autor, de dois exemplares da obra. O livro será encaminhado para um revisor especializado, escolhido pela Editoria, para elaborar a resenha.
Pontos de vista
Pontos de vista, assim como as revisões, serão elaborados para a CBAB a convite da Editoria, para retratar temas de interesse dos melhoristas e da sociedade.
Cartas
Cartas breves, também de interesse geral, serão aceitas para publicação. A Editoria se reserva o direito de editar as cartas por limitações de espaço e clareza de exposição.
